The Nebelung Cat is a medium-sized breed known for its medium long shimmering blue coat. Probably the best way to describe these cats is to say they are long!
They have long bodies, long graceful necks, long legs, and long plumed tails. The modified wedge-shaped head is topped with large pointed ears that have tufts of fur.
Slightly oval, widely spaced eyes of yellowish-green or green color, complete the look.

The Nebelung is a newer cat breed developed in the mid 1980s in Denver, Colorado. The breed’s story began when a black shorthaired female and a black longhaired male produced a litter of three.
One of the shorthaired black female kittens was given to Cora Cobb’s son who named her Elsa.
In 1984, Elsa produced a litter of her own with the help of a Russian Blue type tomcat. Elsa’s litter of six included one longhaired male kitten with a striking blue coat. Cobb decided to keep this kitten and named him Siegfried.
The next year, Elsa and the same tomcat produced another litter, that now contained a female blue longhaired kitten.
Cobb decided to adopt her as well and named her Brunhilde.
In 1985 Cobb moved to El Paso, Texas and brought Siegfried and Brunhilde with her.
She was delighted when in 1986 Brunhilde accepted her brother as a mate and produced a litter of three kittens. All three kittens possessed the same body type and shimmering blue coats of their parents.
Cobb decided to name the new breed Nebelung which translates to ‘creatures of the mist‘.
Furthermore, she reached out to TICA’s geneticist Dr. Solveig Pflueger for guidance in establishing her new breed. In 1987, The International Cat Association accepted the Nebelung for registration and gave the breed the championship status in 1997.
Today, the Nebelung Cat is recognized as a new breed by the American Cat Fanciers Association, the World Cat Federation and other organizations as well.
As with all other cat breeds, males are slightly larger and weigh from 9-14 pounds. Females are smaller and weigh from 7-9 pounds.
